Participants will learn about gender and sexuality and the differences, what the LGBTQIA acronyms mean, using pronouns, discrimination against LGBTQIA, risk factors for individuals who identify LGBTQIA, including suicide, cultivating a safe and affirming space for LGBTQIA individuals, how to advocate for youth, and changes individuals can make to help support LGBTQIA.
Agenda Includes Opening Discussion: Gender Messages Gender and Sexuality, the LGBTQIA Acronym Inappropriate Language vs. Affirming Language (including Pronouns 101) Anti-LGBTQ Discrimination and Experiences In and Out of School Risk Factors, Including Suicide Risk Cultivating Safe and Affirming Spaces, focusing on Visible Allyship Advocating for Youth Individually vs. Organizationally; Moving Forward Q&A and any further discussion Objectives: By the end of the session, participants will: – Understand terminology including gender identity and expression, and the LGBTQIA acronym – Identify specific areas for improvement individually and organizationally – Identify specific ways to improve (action steps) individually and organizationally.
