ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. The more than 16,000 ALICE households in our region are working but not earning enough to keep up with the cost of living. Another 6800+ households in Crawford, Marion, and Wyandot are earning below the Federal Poverty Level.

ALICE can be any age, race, or ethnicity. ALICE families look just like yours, and at nearly one in three households in our tri-county region, chances are they are your neighbors, coworkers, classmates, and friends.

The Household Survival Budget reflects the minimum cost to live and work in the modern economy. This budget is the basis for determining whether households are above or below the ALICE Threshold by county.

In 2021, annual household costs in every county in Ohio were well above the Federal Poverty level of $26,500 for a family of four.

In Crawford, Marion, and Wyandot, the annual Household Survival Budget for a family with two adults and two school-age children is $53,856, which would require an hourly wage of $26.93.
